Dining Room Teal Storage Cabinets

So when I found out I was prego, I knew my trusty craft room would need to be turned into my son's room and I'd have to find a space to do my crafting elsewhere. I got the bright idea to add storage cabinets into my dining room- since we don't do a lot of formal dining. I thought it would be the perfect place by allowing me to be downstairs and in the same general area as the hubs when he'd be on the computer. I often found disconnected from the world (that's good and bad, I guess) when in my craft room- this way I could craft, but still be able to talk to the hubs. It also forced me to completely downsize all my crafting crap. haha

Please disregard the messy computer setup in the background. lol

I searched high and low for skinny enough storage, but tall enough to fit our space and for what I needed. I luckily came across on a local yard sale site someone selling these 2 plastic storage cabinets for $30 for the pair. They were the perfect size and price- since similar ones at Target or Ikea were a BOATLOAD more- and boring colors. I knew I wanted these cabinets to brighten up our fairly neutral dining room, so I decided to paint them teal (similar to our coffee cart that I DIY'ed from a tv cart.)
Gotta love how spray paint can update boring storage cabinets.

Let the painting begin! Ran out of paint, so had to get more to have a even coating.
Here they are in the space- I managed to get *most* of my crafting stuff in them- I have a few boxes tucked under our fold-leaf table filled with fabric though. Who knew I'd start to get into sewing too!

Anyways, don't settle for a one-function room- go for multi-functional! I plan on adding either corkboard, magnetic plates or chalkboard on the inside of the doors- just haven't gotten to it yet.
As a side note- don't wear short-sleeves when spray painting on a windy day. lol

Hope this inspires you to take otherwise boring garage storage and turn it into functional storage inside your home!

Mirror Mirror on our bedroom wall: Red mirror makeover

So I have been wanting to revamp this mirror I aquired a few years ago, for ages. I wanted to use the mirror on the wall above my vanity, since the mirror to the vanity broke (unfortunately) and we couldn't afford to get a replacement mirror. Finally I got around to repainting it and putting it up on the wall above my vanity. I decided to put some of my antique hat collection around it (I chose to stick to just the black ones). I'm not 100% sure I like the layout of the hats- maybe I'll do a more "clumpy" arrangement, but for now, it will do till I figure out what I want to do with it all.

I started out with the mirror, in all its cracked and gold glory. I am so NOT a gold person.

Then I masked off the mirror with paper and tape.

Then time for some spray paint!

I found this red paint actually at Family Dollar. I thought this project would be perfect to test out the paint, since the mirror's frame was a cheap plastic- so if it didn't work, no big loss. I also got the mirror for free, so again, if it didn't work- no big loss. Overall the paint wasn't bad. I wouldn't use it if you wanted a good quality gloss or super weather resistant, but overall, not bad for a matte finish indoor project.

Overall I think it turned out nice. It gives some nice pop of color against my black vanity and black hat collection. I just need to update and fancy-up the stuff on the vanity next (like no pink jewelry box). I also want to paint my end tables black, so they match the rest of the furniture in the bedroom. And repaint the scratched up vanity.

(Disregard the baskets of laundry waiting to be put away- reflected in the mirror, or my 80s prom dress for our party, hanging on my closet door. lol)

I think it looks cute- I just might need some more expert advice as to making it really awesome in the room. Since by no-means am I an interior decorator, I would love arrangement advice to the wall decor and vanity setup.
Have a great day!
